We are seeking a white male dancer for a specific role with strong technique, sensitivity, and a willingness to engage deeply with a process-led, research-driven environment.

This R&D project explores themes of race, Deaf identity, and power, and is shaped through lived experience, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

We are particularly interested in artists who:

  • Have a strong sense of theatrical expression and stage presence

  • Are able to respond to a theme through personal exploration, reflection, and interpretation

  • Are open-minded and willing to engage fully in a collaborative creative process

  • Bring a grounded, articulate movement quality (contemporary and/or ballet training)

  • Are comfortable working across movement, rhythm, and non-verbal communication

 

Project Period:  7 May – 23 May 2026,(Leeds-based;)

A Deaf Male Dance Artist

This placement offers a structured, real-world environment supporting a profoundly Deaf dancer in transitioning from training into professional practice.

The project explores themes of race, Deaf identity, and power, and is shaped through lived experience, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The selected dancer will be directly involved in rehearsals and sharing processes, gaining insight into professional creative workflows while contributing to the development of the work.

We are particularly interested in artists who:

  • Identify as Deaf (profoundly Deaf preferred)

  • Are open to engaging with process-led, research-driven creation

  • Are interested in exploring movement, rhythm, and non-verbal communication

  • Are willing to work across different studio environments, teaching styles, and communication approaches

  • Are curious, reflective, and open-minded within collaborative processes

 

Access & Support:

We will tailor communication and working methods to support access needs, including:

  • Visual cues

  • Vibration cues (e.g. Woojer jackets)

  • Lighting cues

  • Written and visual instructions

  • British Sign Language (BSL)

This placement supports the dancer in identifying and developing the access approaches that work best for them within a professional context.

Fee & Support: This is a paid internship opportunity, combining artistic development with financial support. The fee will be confirmed with the selected artist.

A Deaf Artist (any discipline)

 

We invites a Deaf artist (any discipline) to join the R&D process of Boot Polish, a new dance theatre work.

Description

We are opening a space for a Deaf artist from any discipline to engage with Boot Polish, an ongoing dance theatre R&D project exploring themes of race, Deaf identity, and power.

This collaboration invites an artist to bring their own perspective, practice, and lived experience into dialogue with movement-based research.

The project will take place between 5–23 May 2026 (Leeds).
The mode and level of involvement will be discussed and agreed during the interview process, and does not require full-time participation.

 

We welcome artists working across disciplines, including (but not limited to):

  • Dramaturgy, theatre-making, and performance (including dance theatre practices)

  • Live art and interdisciplinary performance

  • Visual arts (painting, drawing, installation)

  • Set, costume, and spatial design (including digital and immersive design)

  • Sound and music

  • Film and video

  • Writing and text-based practices

  • Digital and interactive media

Fundraising Manager

Description

We have an opportunity for you to join the Karma Dance CIC team as a Fundraising Manager.
 

This role involves leading funding applications and identifying funding opportunities to support our artistic and community projects. The focus will be on securing resources for our work with diverse communities, helping to expand access and engagement through creative and educational programmes.


This is a part-time role, working one day per week. Remote working is accepted, ideally on Mondays.

Karma Dance (Mental Health & Trauma) CIC invites highly skilled, expressive dance artists to join the company’s evolving repertory for a powerful new work exploring mental health and domestic violence — issues that shape and fracture our current society.

 

Deadline: Friday 22 August 2025

Successful applicants will be invited to the in-person audition.

All applicants will receive a response by Thursday 28 August 2025.

Description

We are seeking performers with strong technique, emotional depth, and creative generosity, confident in working with movement, spoken text, and sensitive subject matter. The production includes scenes with partial nudity, approached in a respectful and professional environment. Individual comfort levels will be prioritised, and creative alternatives such as stickies, hibues, or shibues may be used. No nudity will be required at the audition.

 

We are especially interested in artists who:

 

  • Are confident engaging with challenging and sensitive themes

  • Bring a bold, dynamic movement quality with strong contemporary or Ballet training

  • Contribute actively to collaborative, interdisciplinary creation processes​​​​​​
