Testimonial

It was a treat to experience Karma Dance and their work "Diminished," which tackles the profound trauma and lasting resonance of abuse. It is dance that plays, or so it seems to me, with paradoxes of attraction and power.

Media Coverage

Zoobin's  choreography has become more powerful, more complex and more musical. He articulates his ideas fluently and is now making work that clearly resonates well with his audiences.

Karma Dance (Mental Health & Trauma CIC) bring their bold Indo-contemporary double bill Diminished to Leeds this October. A powerful evening exploring resilience, control, and the healing potential of movement.

Led by Artistic Director Zoobin Surty, the company continues to carve a distinctive path at the intersection of classical Indian dance, contemporary movement, and social impact. With Diminished, Zoobin and his collaborators invite audiences to witness dance as both storytelling and survival, a way to turn unspoken experiences into shared understanding.

"The dancers ( Silas, Arianne, Jacob & Tong) performed brilliantly, both technically and emotionally, taking the audience to a dark place but also reminding them that these issues are real and present. In an interview following the show, Zoobin acknowledged the vital contributions of assistant choreographer and rehearsal director Xiaoyi Tong. He highlighted Tong’s intense, deep, and honest work in bringing the polished version of the research project, DIMINISHED, to life. Tong worked meticulously with both the dancers and musicians to realize Surty’s vision."
