BOOT POLISH

BOOT POLISH - A unified narrative for Black, White & Deaf equality.
Who holds the power? An asymmetric web of domination and vulnerability between an enslaved Black man and a Deaf White aristocrat. Performed by a cast of four male dancers.
About the Work: Boot Polish is a contemporary BSL inclusive dance exploring the psychological and spiritual impact of race, class, and colonial power during the British Raj.
Through 2 bodies, 2 souls —a Black man and a White man—the work reveals oppression, dependency, and inherited emotional weight. The act of boot polishing becomes a metaphor for survival, concealment, and unseen wounds. Blending ancestral and colonial movement, the piece unfolds from tension to awareness, inviting reflection on identity, dignity, and healing.
